Solid Steel Radio 24-01-14 - DK, Mr Wyse

DK steps up with his first mix of the year and it's a focus on new releases from the Ninja Tune family of labels including an exclusive from the forthcoming Illum Sphere album.

First up it's the bonus track from the excellent Run the Jewels album featuring Q-Bert, followed by the FaltyDL single Danger, Jessica Lauren from 2000 and "Prime/Decent" by Lee Bannon. Then it's African flavours both new and old, the recent Lone giveaway and the first play for "Near The End" from the superb Illum Sphere album Ghosts of Then and Now, out on 10 February.

Machinedrum gets the VIP treatment from Om Unit, followed by Actress, a Mr. Scruff edit of Pusha Tand more new music from Young Fathers on Big Dada and NameBrandSound on Technicolour. Finally it's a great Cid Rim remix for Andreya Triana, second spin for the Maya Jane Coles remix for Bonobo and a big favourite from last year by North Lakes on Phonica.

In Hour 2 Mr Wyse returns to Solid Steel with his 'Great British Break Off' mix, delving deep to unearth a quality selection from obscure library records to some big names of British music, but all featuring a tasty break or two.

Session musicians from Bruton and KPM sit alongside Skull on Trevor Jackson's Output label and heavy breaks by Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Post punk legends Magazine feature with a track from their 1980 album Play, plus much more from Gary Newman, FBI and Brian Auger.
