Solid Steel 25-07-14 - Bambooman, Matt Berry, DJ Food

We start this week with Leeds based producer Bambooman who has his EP Dulcet out on Sonic Router. He has also released on Brownswood and Project Mooncircle, and this is what he said about his mix;

"I tried to make the mix as summery as possible to go with the great weather we've been having; so here's hoping it gives of that vibe! I included a few old favourites - tracks that inspired me to make music in the first place from people like Edan, Moondog and Storms and Stress - alongside some new stuff I found that I've really been feeling from Lonnie Holley, Mo Kolours and Connan Mockasin before tying it off with 'Like A Hawk'; a track by my good friend's band, Golden Teacher. The rest of the mix is all my own material: Bambooman tracks (some released, some not) alongside tracks I've produced for London based soul singer, Segilola and bits from my side project Grouphums and 'Ferric' from my Rhodo Dendron collaboration alongside producer Venuq. Best served with sunshine and an ice cold juice..."

In Hour 2 we have a double-header of a mix starting with special guest Matt Berry, well known for his appearances in The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh and more recently Toast of London. He's also a musician in his own right with several albums under his belt, the latest being Music For Insomniacs where he channels the synthesised soundscapes of Vangelis and Mike Oldfield. There's no track list as he's currently recording the next series of Toast but he plugs into musicals like Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds and Jesus Christ Superstar, soundtrack work by John Carpenter & Alan Howarth and pop from Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and Kate Bush.

Following in his wake is DJ Food with the first instalment of a new mix series called Magpie Music which focuses on distorted drums, fuzz bass and the more psychedelic side of his current tastes. Expect music from The Soundcarriers, Pond, tUnE-yArDs and the Osmonds plus unreleased gems from Mophono and The Group Modular.
