Clifford Heads South...

The Clifford Gilberto Rhythm Combination will be playing live at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Cape Town, South Africa on 31.03.00. Well, actually, Clifford will, because at the moment he is the Rhythm Combination, and a very fine combination, too. Anyways, Cliff (may I call you Cliff?) played at the everyday ordinaire North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland last year and they liked him so much that they asked him to fly down to Africa for their first Southern Hemisphere event.

Other performers include Herbie Hancock, the great Hugh Masekela, Busi Mhlongo, Johnny Griffin, Tania Maria, Youssou N'dor and many many more. Clifford's going on his own with keyboard, sampler and bass and promises to play around an hour of tried and trusted numbers from his old album and material he's working on for the new disc, due out later this year and provisionally titled "Shift". He's still working hard at getting it all just so, but the driving force behind it is the idea of "Pong on the DreamcastŠ it's sort of like having a really funky shirt, but carrying a calculator and 15 pens in the pocket. Now take that and distort it and that's were I'm heading - I hope..." For more on the show itself, go to Festival Programme And try to ignore the prominent Shell logoŠ
