Solid Steel Radio 18-04-2014 - Rough Trade, Piccadilly, Sounds Of The Universe, Honest Jon's, If Music, Rubadub

It's all about Record Store Day this week and we've asked some of the finest Independent record stores in the UK to contribute mixes in a 6 way Soundclash. First up it's Rough Trade and DJ Bobafatt has mixed up a diverse selection suggested by Rough Trade staff, including RSD releases by Eric Lau, Grace Jones and LCD Soundsystem, plus music from Younghusband and Amazing Snakeheads who will be playing at Rough Trade East on the day.

Manchester's Piccadilly Records are up next, represented by Kickin' Pigeon and continue with more quality selections from Ste Spandex, Begin and the sublime "Monday Club/Tuesday Nite" by Manchester's very own BE, plus the classic "Twilight" by Maze, Stalker and DBH. Sounds of the Universe complete the first part of this vinyl Soundclash opening with Panoram, a Truth is Light edit and followed by some deep jazz from Skymark, Dam Shake, Avolon Emerson and Tenderlonius on their own Sounds of the Universe record label.

Into the second half of this Record Store Day special and we have a mix from Budgie on behalf of Honest Jon's, opening with their own release of rare recordings from Iran and into New Age sounds of Lasos, a Gospel selection and two from Theo Parrish's Wildheart label, including a track from Budgie himself.

Jean Claude from If Music steps up to the decks with a mix of music from the RSD compilation If 2.0, that's released alongside Ninja Tune and featuring music from Bayeté, The New World Percussion Ensemble, Slowly Rolling Camera and The WacH, plus other releases by Melanie De Biasio and Dokta Venom.

Finally, Rubadub from Glasgow complete the Soundclash with a vinyl mix starting with the OB Iggnit mix of Luc Marianni and into deep techno from DJ Qu, Legowelt and previously unreleased Chicago Acid from D Wilson & L Carson. With Chez Damier, Mike Huckaby, Soundstream and Seven Davis Jr to end the mix, this special Record Store Day show once again makes Solid Steel worthy of the title 'The Broadest Beats'.
