Black Salad

— Released 26th November 2012 on Big Dada
He's back! Over a year since his last release, Kieren Dickins aka DELS returns with a five track EP to cement his place as one of the most exciting, forward-looking MCs in the UK.
Already picked up on and played by Zane Lowe, the EP shows DELS taking his music to a whole new level and preparing the way for what is to follow. Already picked up on and played by Zane Lowe, the EP shows DELS taking his music to a whole new level and preparing the way for what is to follow. Lead track "Bird Milk" (featuring singer BILA) turned up in an earlier incarnation on the Kwesachu mixtape earlier this year. Produced by Kwes (who was responsible for much of DELS' debut album, the acclaimed "GOB"), this is a far punchier, crisper version, DELS' clever, mordant lyrics cutting through, his voice sounding more like melted chocolate than ever before.
"Not Today" is produced by Raisa Khan, best known as a member of Micachu & The Shapes, but also a longtime member of the DELS live band and a hugely accomplished music maker in her own right. An opportunity for the MC to flow hard over a bouncing b-line and fairground keyboard, DELS accentuates the positive, using his words to leap over the obstacles laid in his path.
The third and last main track is "You Live In My Head" - a beautiful, filmic love song which nods back to DELS' collaboration with Bonobo, "Eyes Down." The EP is rounded out by two instrumentals, one from Eli-T and Kwes and the other from Kwes’ brother (himself a hugely accomplished producer and musician), Coby Sey.
With a new album to follow in the first half of 2013, DELS is using "Black Salad" to whet our appetites for what's to come. After the critical plaudits for his debut in 2011, 2013 will be the year when the MC becomes a household name.
