Flashlight EP
by Bonobo

— Released 1st December 2014

"Flashlight" is the sound of a musical master getting back to what he does best. After almost two years of touring his fifth album, The North Borders, Bonobo’s hunger for producing new music is potently evident on this brand new, three track EP. "Flashlight" is the sound of a musical master getting back to what he does best. After almost two years of touring his fifth album, The North Borders, Bonobo’s hunger for producing new music is potently evident on this brand new, three track EP. Already heralded as BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe's 'Hottest Record' the title song is one of the most invigorating electronic pieces you’re likely to hear any time soon; a compulsive, garage-inflected beat driving trademark, infectious riffs, ocean-deep bass and siren-like synths. It’s music that moves the mind, feet and heart in equal proportions, exuding the talent that has made Bonobo’s name a global byword for brilliance.

"Pelican’s" choppy rhythm, irresistible drums and swirling synths are liable to cause an onset of synesthesia, and make the song sound somehow three dimensional. "Return to Air" closes the set with a tender, immersive joy that makes total sense of its title.

The Flashlight EP’s three songs are of the highest musical calibre, leaving the listener begging for more, and suggesting that Bonobo’s next full-length will see him take another giant leap forwards. In the meantime, Simon Green is touring North America with his blistering DJ set, ahead of a final, fittingly grand North Borders show at Alexandra Palace on 28th November.
