Deco Child - S&G Out Now
"S&G" is an impressively layered and emotionally cathartic track. It could be melancholic but is somehow hauntingly optimistic- haunting because it stays with you long after listening. Searing warped vocals guide you through the clipped beats and emotive strings which turn into the subtly driving blissful electronica that Deco Child has been praised for. The track ends with ghostly orchestral keyboard echoes that sound almost choral.
The cryptic title is in reference to the fabled songwriters Simon and Garfunkel- Deco Child says that he was inspired by their recording practises of stamping on floors and hitting out of tune guitars- the opening percussion sounds like sampled typewriter- on repeated listening you can hear this DIY studio ethic at work.
"Diamond Drops" conjures up images of, well, diamond drops. It is a moodier affair with R'nB inflected vocals- though no less mesmeric.
