Solid Steel Radio 28-02-14 - Moresounds, DK, Contact Field Orchestra

Moresounds is our guest in Hour 1 this week, with a mix across the board opening with Canadian Library music, Prince Jammy and Madvillain, before delving into some of his own lost hip hop beats from yesteryear and even a track from a psych/rock band that he used to play with.

Then it's onto some inspirations and music from friends including Om Unit with his excellent update of the classic Shadow Boxing, H-SIK, Fanu and a Moresounds remix of Machinedrum, finishing with a junglist hook and a respectful greeting to King Tubby.

DK kicks off Hour 2 with music mostly made up of recent and forthcoming guests on Solid Steel, starting with Darkhouse Family, Addison Groove alongside DJ Die, Leon Vynehall, Clap! Clap! and Mo Kolours who are all future guests, plus tracks from Illum Sphere, Deft, Four Tet and last week's guest Pearson Sound.

There's also another spin for William Onyeabor, who unfortunately isn't down for a guest mix, but you can catch a great documentary about the man here.

Contact Field Orchestra close the show with more of a "Sunday mix for the homies than anything else... songs that I've been digging lately; slightly dubbed and narrated with various vocal samples".

With beautiful screen printed releases on Hit + Run and a track on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Bubblers, it's another mix perfect for Solid Steel. Phillip Tabane, Dam-Funk, Seven Davis Jr., Jungle Brothers, Kutmah and Jacob Miller all feature, plus music and remixes from Contact Field Orchestra giving another show that is truly 'The Broadest Beats'.
