Make You Scream
by VTSS

— Released 31st May 2022

Following the extra-curricular electronica of her “Projections'' EP for Technicolour, released earlier this year, London based, Polish producer VTSS (real name Martyna Maja) takes another sharp turn with new single ‘Make You Scream’ - a vocal-led mutant pop track which marks her debut for Ninja Tune and a new era for VTSS as an artist. Accompanied by a striking video, directed by Furmaan Ahmed (who has previously shot Willow Smith, SOPHIE and Dorian Electra), the release sees VTSS’s musical character step further into the light, backed up by razor-sharp production.

On “Projections”, Maja allowed VTSS to glide between tempos and energies without losing the bite inherent in her sound. New single ‘Make You Scream’ sets out VTSS’ role as your new favourite icon in no uncertain terms, featuring her own hypnotic vocals for the first time. The four-to-the-floor thump casts an eye back to the path she’s journeyed so far, but here the energy is more akin to Miss Kittin’s devastatingly seductive electroclash than hard n’ fast kick drum intensity. “Imma make you scream, make your head disappear,” is a deadeye hook with a delicious ambiguity in its intention. It marks a brand new direction for VTSS, one that exhibits influences including trap, hyper-pop and PC Music.

Martyna has quickly established herself as one of the most vital, uncompromising and visible rising artists around. She has a huge following on social media, where she is not afraid to call out misogyny, homophobia and racism in the comments. As a DJ, Martyna cuts an imposing figure in the realm of explosive, hard-edged techno, while her productions have moved from disruptive variations of club music towards a more diverse, highly personal strain of electronica. Previously a fixture at Berghain, VTSS has made her name as a formidable, shape-shifting DJ in the underground club scene, playing much-lauded sets across the globe and for her NTS residency. She will be debuting her boundry pushing new live show at Primavera Sound this week and DJing the following weekend, plus heading to Glastonbury (for 2 x B2B sets with Daniel Avery and Ukrainian DJ Nastia), Dekmantel, AVA Belfast, Nuits Sonores, Dour Festival, Melt Festival and Maiden Voyage festival (B2B with Objekt) amongst many others in the coming months. Alongside curating her own night ‘For Your Entertainment’ which she’ll be bringing to London club FOLD in July, Martyna will be embarking on a North America tour in September and South America during November.

‘Make You Scream’ is out now on Ninja Tune, with an EP coming soon.
