Ninja Tune XX London Ewer Street

Ninja Tune's biggest extravaganza was the largest amount of work, and ended in perhaps the greatest night in the 20 year history of the label. With the car park at Ewer street looking stunning, and (most of) the 24+ artists soundchecked and ready to rumble, 9.00 pm on Saturday 2nd October finally came. Beyond a Ninja head with lasers for eyes and walls beautifully designed by Mutate Britain and Chu, the label's roster had never sounded better. Coldcut's DJ sets surprised and stunned, and revealed that Matt Black and Jon More's understanding and appreciation of electronic music are second to none. Daedelus' melodic thunder was performance art as much as it was music; Roots Manuva wowed the sold-out venue with his iconic sonics, DJ Food and DK's Ninja-only a/v set brought smiles to faces and tears to eyes, and new Ninja star Toddla T sent the dancefloor wild. And of course it was great to have the legend Mr Scruff in the car park. There was so much good music it was tough to know where to be; a wonderful playful Bonobo DJ set, superlative Kentaro, XXXChange worked his punk-Timbaland swing in full effect, Dorian Concept played his amazing future club jazz so hard that you worried for his keyboard, Kid Koala being THE genius entertainer - and then there were, Flaoting Points, Dark Sky, Offshore, Mark Prictchard, DELS, The (awesome) Bug, Hexstatic (rammed!!), a very deep melodic Eskmo, banging Qemists, King Cannibal with a packed room until 6am... If you were there, apologies for the long queue!! But we hope you'll feel as happy, moved and just blown away as we do. Thank you all, and here's to an even bigger party in another 20 years. Alright!
