Record Store Day 2014: Illum Sphere 'Spectre Vex' EP & 'If 2.0'
Record Store Day is upon us and we have two very special releases available to pick up from your local indie store: Illum Sphere's Spectre Vex EP and the follow up the last year's collaboration with London record store If Music, If 2.0.
The Spectre Vex EP is a powerful 8-track selection featuring exclusive new material from the Hoya:Hoya co-founder alongside remixes from fellow electronic outsiders Legowelt (L.I.E.S.), Lone (R&S), Charles Manier / James T. Cotton (aka Dabrye) and not forgetting the incontrovertible UK legend Zed Bias. It comes as 2 x 180g 12" vinyl packaged in a matte black flute-cardboard carton envelope featuring 4 print inserts by photographer Silvia Grav.
If you're in London today make sure to hit Sounds of the Universe's (Broadwick Street, Soho) street-party where Illum Sphere will be spinning records from 3-4pm, joined by Four Tet, Alex Nut, Mr. Thing among others.
Last year, Ninja Tune teamed up with one of the UK’s best, most singular independent record stores, If Music, to release a compilation on Record Store Day. This year we are excited to return with a follow-up edition.
The 2LP compilation features music from Cinematic Orchestra’s long time vocalist Heidi Vogel (here remixed via the richly atmospheric electronics and haunting melody of J Swinscoe & Dom Smith, the slow-burn, soul beauty of Jono McCleery and the demented, infectious funk of DJ Saturn and Annabel (lee) amongst many others.
