Solid Steel Radio 14-02-14 - Deft, DK, Illum Sphere Interview
Deft is our guest in Hour 1 with a mix in 3 parts with extra bits of field recordings and recordings from his phone.
In his own words; "First section is a selection of tracks I found when digging through my digital and physical crates, tracks that made an impact on me musically and personally, almost like flicking through my own head-radio, if that makes sense...
The second section is a little ambient trip, the calm before the storm if you will, and the last section is what I'm currently feeling and playing out in the footwork/jungle/dnb world. Theres lots of new material in there from myself, friends and people I've met along the way, so hopefully as a whole the mix is a good representation of where I'm at musically and personally."
DK opens hour 2 with a whole heap of brand new music starting with Darkhouse Family featuring ARP 101, a track off the Theophilus London EP produced by Cid Rim, an Addison Groove album track and Diggs Duke remixed by Alex Patchwork.
Then it's vintage Techno from Galaxy 2 Galaxy with L-Vis 1990 on the edit, forthcoming music from Giganta on Werkdiscs and Four Tet alongside Terror Danjah on TEXT, before ending with the Policy remix of William Onyeabor, "A Certain Ratio" in their dubbed out Sir Horatio guise from 1981 and "Vizion" by Machinedrum.
We close with an Illum Sphere interview where he talks about his new album Ghosts of Then and Now which is out this week, his DJing career and clubs in Manchester, plus the music that has influenced him over the years, including tracks from Jimi Hendrix, Roy Haynes, Theo Parrish, Transllusion and Dabrye.
