Star (Shelley FKA DRAM Remix)

— Released 12th May 2021
Fresh off the back of his triumphant new self-titled album, hailed as “a set of sumptuous, retro R&B” by Pitchfork, Shelley FKA DRAM brings the same sensual energy to his remix of ‘Star’ (a standout cut from Machinedrum’s recent album “A View of U” featuring Tanerélle and Mono/Poly).

Sensitively reworking the instrumental, Shelley maintains the melodious thump of the original but ups the sultry factor with the addition of strings and his rich, resonant vocals before making way for Tanerélle (pronounced tuh-nair-ree-elle).
Singer-songwriter and producer Shelley FKA DRAM is a Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum artist based in Hampton, Virginia. He is probably best known for his smash hit ‘Broccoli’ with Lil’ Yachty (2016) but has also collaborated with Erykah Badu, Chance the Rapper and Gorillaz.
Released in October 2020, “A View of U” is Machinedrum’s ninth solo album in a glittering career that has cemented his reputation as “one of electronic music’s biggest and brightest stars” (DJ Mag). Joined by a stellar cast of collaborators including Freddie Gibbs, Sub Focus, Chrome Sparks, Tigran Hamasyan, Jesse Boykins III and Rochelle Jordan, the album received praise from the likes of FADER, Clash, DJ Mag, Stereogum, Line of Best Fit and NPR who said “It bristles with the creative confidence needed to pull off an album that includes gritty hip-hop, complex electronica, drum & bass and more. It’s as big and bold as any commercial pop record, but it’s also endlessly sophisticated, full of cosmic euphoria”.
Recently Travis debuted his “A View Of U” live show online, ahead of restarting in-person touring later this year. A truly unique visual experience the show is a collaboration with Daito Manabe (Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk and Squarepusher) and his Tokyo-based creative studio Rhizomatiks, who built their own custom ‘4D Volumetric Capture’ technology that moves in real time between the real and the virtual worlds created by Manabe.
